Readers may be interested in my review of Till the End that appeared last week in the Wall Street Journal. The memoir detailed the rise of the famed pitcher C.C. Sabathia from working-class Vallejo, Calif. to the major leagues — and his subsequent struggles with alcohol.
What raised Till the End above the typical sports memoir was its unflinching honesty. C.C. was kind to his former mates but unflinching in his self-appraisal — perhaps his best pitch.
